End of the Year Celebrations, Drop-off and Pick-up

End of the Year Celebrations, Drop-off and Pick-up June 2-4
Posted on 05/20/2020
CGMS LogoThough the 2019-20 school year ended up looking a lot different than everyone expected, we still want to celebrate another successful year at CGMS!  Our teachers are hard at work in planning end-of-the-year drive through parades to celebrate their students. The parades will be split by grade levels, with 6th grade teachers taking June 2, 7th grade teachers on June 3 and 8th grade teachers on June 4. Each parade will take place in the parking lot at Cottage Grove Middle School.

During these celebration parades, families and students will have the opportunity to drive over to CGMS and pick up their personal belongings while at the same time being able to say a final good-bye to their respective teachers this year.

Students personal belongings from school and PE lockers have already been packed into grocery bags and organized in alphabetical order for each grade level.
There will also be an evening drop-off time without a teacher parade from 6-8 p.m. on June 4. Students will be allowed to return school materials and items during that time, but teachers will not be on hand to celebrate their students.

Parade Celebration

Our teachers will spread out through the parking lot and wait for smiles and waves as their students drive by. While all students and families are required to stay in the vehicle during the parade and drop-off times, feel free to pull up next to your students' teachers so they can say hello and let you know how much they have missed you.

In order to minimize wait times and the number of families going through the parade, we've organized each of the three days by student last name:

  • Last names A-I: 8 to 10 a.m.
  • Last names J-R: 10 a.m. to Noon
  • Last names S-Z: 1 to 3 p.m.

Pick-up and Yearbooks

You should expect to pick up any remaining items for your child, including the school materials and personal belongings that have already been bagged. If our yearbooks have arrived in time, they will be included in the bagged items for those students who already purchased yearbooks earlier this year. If you haven't already purchased a yearbook, we have a limited number of extra copies. You can buy one during the celebration at a drive-through sale for $30.

If yearbooks do not arrive in time, they will be distributed in the fall or mailed to students who are not returning to CGMS.

Return Items

The parade will also offer a chance to return ay materials distributed by CGMS. This includes:

  • Borrowed technology devices (unless your child is participating in summer Distance Learning)
  •  Classroom textbooks (i.e. math textbook)
  •  Library books
  •  Language Arts teacher books
  •  Musical instruments
  •  Any other classroom materials that the teacher has requested to be returned
  •  Other items
Any returning materials will be placed into labeled bins. No one will be allowed into the building because of construction projects already underway.

If you are not able to come to school at your scheduled time, please call Teresa Vine at 651-425-6804 or send her an email at tvine0@sowashco.org.
