Spirit Week

  • Monday, 10/21 – Pajama Day (no slippers, must wear shoes)
  • Tuesday, 10/22 – College Day (wear your favorite college gear)
  • Wednesday, 10/23 – Unity Day (wear orange to support National Bully Prevention Month)
  • Thursday, 10/24 – Cougar Pride Day (wear anything with school colors)
  • Friday, 10/25 – Hat & Jersey Day (hats are allowed, for free)
    School Dance, 10/25, 3pm – 5pm, $5 admission, no costumes

WASHINGTON, DC FUNDRAISING

We run fundraisers to try and give students an opportunity to make money for the trip.  Any student in our school (6th and 7th graders thinking of going in the future as well as 8th graders going on the trip this year) are eligible to participate.    The first fundraiser that we will run this year is selling Butter Braids.  Here is a brief overview of how the fundraisers work:

  • Step 1 - Students sell items and collect money starting on Monday, October 7th.   You can have the people that you sell to pay by cash or make out a check directly to you.
  • Step 2 - Money and forms are due on Wednesday, October 23rd.  Please double check all of your forms for accuracy and make sure that the name of your student is on each form and the money totals for each form are  correct.  If you are paying by check, you should have ONE check to turn in made out to "DC TRIP".
  • Step 3 - Students/parents will pick up their goods on Monday, November 4th from 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm in the cafetorium at CGMS.  Your student will receive their goods as well as a check for the money they earned for their participation in the fundraiser.

SNAP (SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

SNAP is intended to supplement food and nutrition needs for people of all ages. Eligibility is based upon your household size and income. With SNAP you can stretch your monthly food dollars and choose your own food. You may be eligible for benefits! We assist with eligibility screenings, applications, and finding resources in your community. If you have an active card, we can assist with the recertification process. Information on Temporary Bus Passes for Students

Bus passes for middle school students to ride a bus other than their own, will not typically be issued due to most Middle School bus routes being at capacity. In the event a parent has an emergency situation, please contact Transportation at 651-425-5303.

  • Bus Passes are not intended to be used for social reasons (i.e. play dates, birthday parties, etc.). They should be used for emergency situations only.  
  • All Bus Passes are temporary one day passes.    
  • All Bus Pass requests must be made 24 hours in advance (special consideration may be made for emergency situations).   
  • Students must also be issued a Bus Pass if they need to get on/off at an alternate stop on their already assigned route. Again, this should be for emergency situations only
  • Correspondence from parents/guardians (i.e. hand written notes, text message shown to Drivers, etc.) will NOT be accepted by Drivers as a valid Bus Pass.
  • Special Education Bus Attendance - Please call 651-425-5303 if your student will be absent from Special Education transportation. Please press 1 on the main menu for Special Education Routing.

If students are prompted to add their email and password, please have them do so using their google apps account: username@apps.district833.org. 

Cougar Pride: Character Education

Cottage Grove Middle School has a strong focus on character education alongside a strong academic program, in order to help families develop well rounded citizens with strong, positive character. We are always looking for partnerships in our character ed work. If you’re interested in joining one of our working committees, which meet once per month, please let us know!

Our five “School of Character” working committees are: Advisory Committee, AVID Site team, Equity Team, Research and Data Team, and Service Learning Committee.

SCHOOL CAFE

District 833 Nutrition Services uses School Cafe fpr lunch accounts. To create an account:

  • Go to SchoolCafe.com and select register  
  • Enter in “South Washington County Schools” for the district  
  • Enter basic contact information
  • Choose a username and password    
  • Accept the terms and conditions
  • Add your student(s) to your account using your student’s school ID number, which can be found on Parent Portal.

SchoolCafé allows for more options for parents, and is very user-friendly.With a SchoolCafé account you will be able to set email low balance reminders, schedule automatic payments, review student purchases online and apply for free and reduced meal benefits. 

SchoolCafé also has a free mobile app available for use on any smart device. However, free and reduced meal benefit applications must be completed through a web browser.  
Students can still pay for their school meals with cash or check.

NEWS FROM THE NUTRITION DEPARTMENT

Ala Carte - Nutrition Services offers Ala Carte options at a variety of school buildings, in addition to the regular school breakfast or lunch. For a complete list of snacks and pricing available to elementary, middle and high school students, please go to the district website www.sowashco.org and then click on “Lunch Menus” and then “Menus and Pricing”.  It is the priority of the Nutrition Services Department to have students select and enjoy the complete breakfast or lunch meal.   

If for any reason you wish to set limits on your student’s account, please contact your school cashier.  

SCHOOL POLICIES

Lunch with students - if a parent/guardian wants to have lunch with their student, we will find a space for them in the building. Parent/guardians will no longer be allowed to eat in our lunchroom with their students. 

After school visitors - Need to report to the main office if they wish to see a teacher after school from 2:30pm-3:15pm. We want our staff to continue to be available for parents before and after school, but under normal circumstances it should be by appointment.
