ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM COTTAGE GROVE MIDDLE SCHOOL

Boxtops

It’s the end of the first month of school already, and that means it’s time to collect Box Tops for Education. Each Box Top we collect is worth .5 cents. All money raised through Box Tops goes directly back to our students here at CGMS! Our goal is to collect 20,000 Box Tops this year. That’s a lot of money. Our first Box Top turn in day will be this Friday, September 28th.  Mr. and Mrs. Dummer will be waiting by the bus doors with the Wheaties box ready to collect. Any student who turns in at least 10 Box Tops will be entered into a drawing to win a gift card. Thanks for your support!

 

Morning Hallways

Students are not to enter the hallways until the 7:30 bell rings, unless they have a pre-arranged meeting with a teacher.

8th graders participating in the Washington, DC trip: We will have a parent/student meeting on Tuesday, October 9th starting at 7:15 in the cafetorium.  We will go over flight plans, student expectations,  double check roommates, etc….  All students going on the trip should attend.  Please see Mr. Reiter with any questions! 

All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders interested in participating in our next fundraiser: We are introducing our next fundraiser with ButterBraids! Stop by Mr. Reiter’s room (C116) to pick up forms or use the link below to print off.  Any student at CGMS is welcome to participate in the fundraiser to raise funds for their future trip.  Students will make 40% profit on everything that they sell. Important dates for us are:

Turn-in  - Wednesday, October 10th

Pick-up  - Thursday, October 25th (from 2:30 – 3:15 in the cafetorium)

**As a reminder, when turning in your money and forms, please double check your orders have the correct information and provide

ONE check made out to “DC Trip”.**

Math League

Any student interested in being part of this year’s math league, please come see Mr. Campbell in C119 to grab a permission slip.  The season runs from October to January and we will have practices Tuesdays after school and 5 meets on Mondays after school throughout the season.  If you enjoy challenging yourself with math and learning new problem solving techniques, this is for you.  Stop by soon!

WALK TO SCHOOL DAY

Please join us for the 22nd annual Walk to School day on Wednesday, Oct 10th.  Students may choose to walk or ride their bikes to school that day.  On Wednesday, October 10th students can meet at Kingston Park at 7 for hot chocolate.  Students will receive raffle tickets at school for all walkers and bussers who walk around the building.  Prizes include outside activity equipment!!!

Park HS Dance Team Tryouts

Park HS will be hosting dance team tryouts for the 2018-2019 school year on October 2nd and 4th from 3:30-5:30. Any female currently in grades 7-12 living in the Park boundaries or attending Park are welcome to tryout. Meet in the Multi-Purpose room. Contact coach Thompson at parkettes.dance@gmail.com with questions or if you can’t make it. Parent meeting on October 8th at 7pm.

Seconds at Lunch

If students would like seconds for lunch, please ask for them when you first go through the lunch line.

SNAP (SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM)

SNAP is intended to supplement food and nutrition needs for people of all ages. Eligibility is based upon your household size and income. With SNAP you can stretch your monthly food dollars and choose your own food. You may be eligible for benefits! We assist with eligibility screenings, applications, and finding resources in your community. If you have an active card, we can assist with the recertification process. Friends in Need

Parents /Guardians- go to Friends in Need on the following dates to sign up for Share the Joy holiday resources (Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas presents)

  • Thursday October 18th 5-7pm
  • Monday October 22nd 5-7pm
  • Wednesday October 24th 1-3pm

Sign in at the Friends in Need food shelf located at 535 4th Street. St. Paul Park, MN 55071.  Friends in Need is open to shop for food on Tuesdays from 8 am to 6 pm and Wednesdays from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

 

Middle School Washington DC Trips for 2018-2019 School Year

Each middle school offers an enrichment trip for students to attend Washington DC each school year. Each school’s trip is organized at the building level. As the middle school boundaries adjusted we want all families to be informed in regard to this student opportunity for the 2018-2019 school year.

Information on Temporary Bus Passes for Students

Middle School:

Bus passes for middle school students to ride a bus other than their own, will not typically be issued due to most Middle School bus routes being at capacity. In the event a parent has an emergency situation, please contact Transportation at 651-425-5303.

Other:

-Bus Passes are not intended to be used for social reasons (i.e. play dates, birthday parties, etc.). They should be used for emergency situations only.

-All Bus Passes are temporary one day passes.

-All Bus Pass requests must be made 24 hours in advance (special consideration may be made for emergency situations).

-Students must also be issued a Bus Pass if they need to get on/off at an alternate stop on their already assigned route. Again, this should be for emergency situations only.

-Correspondence from parents/guardians (i.e. hand written notes, text message shown to Drivers, etc.) will NOT be accepted by Drivers as a valid Bus Pass.

Special Education Bus Attendance

Please call 651-425-5303 if your student will be absent from Special Education transportation. Please press 1 on the main menu for Special Education Routing.

Cougar Pride: Character Education

Cottage Grove Middle School has a strong focus on character education alongside a strong academic program, in order to help families develop well rounded citizens with strong, positive character. Our five “School of Character” working committees are: Advisory Committee, AVID Site team, Equity Team, Research and Data Team, and Service Learning Committee.

SCHOOL CAFE

District 833 Nutrition Services uses School Cafe fpr lunch accounts.

To create an account:

  • Go to SchoolCafe.com and select register
  • Enter in “South Washington County Schools” for the district
  • Enter basic contact information
  • Choose a username and password
  • Accept the terms and conditions

Add your student(s) to your account using your student’s school ID number, which can be found on Parent Portal.

SchoolCafé allows for more options for parents, and is very user-friendly.With a SchoolCafé account you will be able to set email low balance reminders, schedule automatic payments, review student purchases online and apply for free and reduced meal benefits. 

SchoolCafé also has a free mobile app available for use on any smart device. However, free and reduced meal benefit applications must be completed through a web browser.  

Students can still pay for their school meals with cash or check.

NEWS FROM THE NUTRITION DEPARTMENT

Ala Carte

Nutrition Services offers Ala Carte options at a variety of school buildings, in addition to the regular school breakfast or lunch. For a complete list of snacks and pricing available to elementary, middle and high school students, please go to the district website @www.sowashco.org and then click on “Lunch Menus” and then “Menus and Pricing”.  It is the priority of the Nutrition Services Department to have students select and enjoy the complete breakfast or lunch meal.   

**If for any reason you wish to set limits on your student’s account, please contact your school cashier.  

SCHOOL POLICIES

Lunch with students - if a parent/guardian wants to have lunch with their student, we will find a space for them in the building. Parent/guardians will no longer be allowed to eat in our lunchroom with their students. 

After school visitors - Need to report to the main office if they wish to see a teacher after school from 2:30pm-3:15pm. We want our staff to continue to be available for parents before and after school, but under normal circumstances it should be by appointment.
